"Lift with your legs," Josh advised. We lifted the large flat rock onto the bed of the truck, making a screeching noise. Today was my first day on a new work detail assignment. I'm now part of the 'grounds' crew. We spent the afternoon loading a truck with flat rocks suitable for making walls and unloading them at the building site. As I felt my aching arms and back, my mind wandered to the Israelite slaves in Egypt thousands of years ago, making bricks. I wonder if they had to carry large stones, like the ones used for the pyramids and other structures, except without the aid of a diesel truck. Suddenly I could sympathize with them.
Sometimes it feels good to do some manual labor and feel like you accomplished something. But there is also joy in seeing friendships with people at youth group or outreach develop. I was talking to one kid who had responded to the altar call the week before. He was obviously needed some friends, so we tried to make him feel welcome and appreciated. At the altar call, those of us who are leaders stand up in the front for the kids to come pray with us. The guy came forward to me and his requests were that he would find friends and that his life dreams would materialize. I wasn't exactly sure why that was an issue to be brought during an altar call, but I prayed for him anyways. During our conversation afterward, I began to wonder how much understanding he really had about God and His Word. I gave him a small booklet put out by Goodseed that gives a condensed chronological presentation of the Bible, from creation to Christ. Hopefully he will read it and understand the truth.

sounds like your having fun. getting in shape physically and spiritually. you know that kid that you talked to probably doesn't have any understanding beyond they joy of knowing that this God he responded to loves him and wants something amazing for him. we all come to God with dreams unfulfilled wanting Him to work miracles. Praise God that even with our limited understanding, He opens our eyes and hearts and teaches us about Himself at a pace we can keep up with. so, keep loving this kid and praying for his requests with him and for his growth. we'll keep praying for you.

AuthorWe are normal people who believe that God would have us serve Him in Brazil. We are saddened by the existence of people who do not have access to the gospel due to their location and language. We want to live among such a people group and plant a church among them, shepherding the believers as they grow to maturity. Archives
