This week has been a good one. Most of the class time was spent doing orientation. The staff introduced us to the various aspects of the training that we are receiving and their expectations of us. As part of our training, each of us will be involved in a local church and will be part of some sort of outreach effort. Outreach doesn't seem to be defined as strictly having to do with unbelievers, but could possibly involve helping young Christians know God and His word. There are various options of ministries to be involved in and I have not had the chance to sign up for one yet, but I will soon.
Another duty is our work detail. We are expected to do 7.5 hours of work detail each week, and there are various crews. My crew is custodial, and involves cleaning the gym, cleaning sidewalks, cleaning windows, and moving furniture. There is a building with tons of furniture all stacked together that needs to be organized. That will be a pure joy.
Among the many acronyms used throughout New Tribes and the training here, one of the most difficult to define is 'e-linc'. It means "equipping through learning, interacting, nurturing, and challenging", although even some staff members may not be able to tell you that if you caught them off guard. We are divided into small groups along with staff families, and meet together to get to know each other better. It is supposed to help us grow, but also to help them determine whether we are good candidates for the mission field.
This week there will be representatives from various NTM mission fields here to talk about the needs in their respective countries. It will be exciting to hear what God is doing around the world and challenging to hear the incredible needs that exist.
Thank you all for your part in reaching those who have never heard.
