A name like that makes me curious, and it also makes for some good laughs. More than once I have heard references to "The Tenkiller", and I'm pretty sure I saw him lurking in the shadows outside my bedroom window...(not really). My bedroom. This leads me to another expectation that turned out differently. My living quarters turned out to be a small room with two beds, a shower, and a sink. Right outside my room is a closet sized space with a toilet in it. In there, space is a commodity. Before I showed up, some of my friends discovered my room and had some good laughs about the whole unusual setup. But it is a nice, cozy space and my belongings are few, so it will work out well.
Tomorrow, my two partners and I will meet our language helper and go to church with him. It is intimidating thinking of trying to learn and analyze the Cherokee language, but it is hard things that grow us. Maybe I should ask how to say "Tenkiller" in Cherokee.
