Our wedding day turned out to be quite enjoyable. Although I was not a fan of the six months of arduous planning, the finished product was quality. More than the color of the flowers, the dresses, the order of ceremony, the music chosen for the procession, or the tasty meal, I hoped that people would remember most of all that we wanted God to be honored. We wanted God's covenant keeping love to be highlighted and remembered. We wanted married couples to recall the commitment they made when they said, "I do," to each other and consider whether they are being the spouse that God would want them to be.
Most people are aware that marriage isn't just confetti and bubbles all the time. The unsaved world would like us to believe that the time the confetti stops and the bubbles pop is when you need to cut loose and look for those frills elsewhere. But marriage is one of our primary witnesses to others of God's covenant-keeping love. He is the God that says He will never leave nor forsake His children. He made a covenant to Israel thousands of years ago, even though they often forsook Him and turned to idols. Yet even today, His covenant still stands and He will accomplish everything He promised. He is longsuffering and faithful. Always. That is our God. Let's be imitators of Him.
