Today after classes were over, students rushed home to load their cars and take off. My roommate, Josh, and I decided to stay here over break. It is more restful to stay here than to organize a trip and drive somewhere. Thank you all for your prayers and support and I wish you all an enjoyable Thanksgiving!
Laughter filled the crisp night air and the flickering flames glinted off the cheeks of a dozen hairy faces. Every man ventured to the cabin with his own meat to grill. The cabin sits on a tree-covered hill, away from the main campus. The host of many a poker game, the cabin offers a rustic environment similar to one that many of us may encounter in our missionary careers. The occasion: Sam's man party. My friend, Sam, will soon be a father. Because that is a pretty big deal, we gathered at the cabin to hang out and encourage our friend. We joked around some and also talked about serious topics. The fathers told their stories and gave tidbits of practical advice. We snagged two expired cakes from the food pantry on campus and tasted them. The one that didn't pass the taste test found itself hurdling toward Sam's face. At the end of a busy week, we needed some stress relief. I was frightened that his face became like a creepy clown and I was reminded of the story of Hanzel and Gretel as I followed his frosting trail all the way to the lake. We all had fun and eagerly awaited Thanksgiving break.
